This summer I got a job as a LPN. It has been an adventure to say-the-least. I knew that I was a new graduate LPN, an I knew that there was going to be a learning curve when I started working, but I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I only got 3 1/2 days of orientation an hit the ground running working full time. My first few days, I had to figure out how to change a urostomy dressing and a colostomy dressing, do a huge wound dressing, had to hang IV's, remove a skin graft an do all these other crazy stuff, all of which I had never done before. It was terrifying. It has slowly gotten better over time. I still don't know everything by any means, but I can function as a decent nurse.

Now I am back in school at Weber state and am still working acouple days a week too. Life just doesn't slow down. This is a picture of some other nursing students that I carpool with. It is probably about 3 am in this picture. I wake up at 2:15am so I can meet our carpool, and we drive up to Ogden (about an hour and 15 minute drive) and be there by 4:30am for our clinical. Luckily we only have to drive up to Ogden twice a week, and the second day, I only have to leave my house at 5:45. The rest of our classes are online.

A fellow nursing student that I went through my LPN with at MATC. She and I both got into this program together. We were stoked. I pretty much spend more time with her than I do my own family. We study together, go to class together, and drive together.

Carley turned six. I know...can you believe how fast they grow up?? She had a friend and cousin party. We went to chuck-E-Cheese again ( I think the kids are wanting to start a tradition) and then bought little Cesears pizza and had cake at the house. We got these screaming coupons online that my sister-in-law introduced me to and we just bought really cheap tokens for Chuck-E-Cheese and let the kids go wild.

Taylor continues to be my little budle of crazniess. She makes me laugh everyday.

Carley started taking ballet. She loves it and, I am fully aware that I am a bias mother, but she actually does really well. I love to peek through the classroom window and watch her because parents are only supposed to sit in on classes on the first lesson of the month.

Skateboarding Provo canyon trail. The girls still love to be on the front of their dad's skateboard. They ride the entire trail and take turns with who gets to go. My brother, his wife and their kids do the same thing. It is a blast.

Christmas this year was so fun. My sister and her husband and my brother and his family were both able to drive up from California and spend it with us. These kind of holiday environments are the ones that I live for. I love my family. We all went to temple square to walk around and see the nativity and lights. We lasted about a half hour before everyone was so frozen that we had to go. This was the walk back to the car.

Carley started Kindergarten! My little girl is so big! The first day of school, I had to take her to the bus stop and get her on the bus.

Then I got to go to the school and spend her first half-hour there with her. Then I had to say good-bye and leave her. It was such a mix of emotions that I had to keep myself from tearing up a few times. Carley wasn't emotional at all :) She had a great time.

Sorry I haven't blogged for so long. I finished my summer class and life has slowed down a bit. I have a semester wait before I can enter another nursing program to finish up my RN. I hope to work and just enjoy taking care of my kids. The job market for nurses is terrible right now in Utah. I have put in countless applications and still haven't been able to get a job, but I won't give up. Here is a summary of our summer!

TD came to visit! She is a good friend from Hawaii that now lives in Washington. It was so good to see her. She kind of took a bonzai trip to Utah and I got to hang out with her for a few days. It was awesome!

Our kids had so much fun playing together.

Carley and Taylor discovered lemonade stands, but decided to modify them. The girls sold cookies a few times this summer and the first time they did it, they made over $7!! They only sold the cookies for .25 cents so you can imagine how much business they got!

We have done quite a bit of fruit picking this summer. My uncle owns the property that my mom grew up on, but he doesn't want anything to do with the fruits that grown there, so we get to collect the spoils! There are black berry vines, plums, pears, and apples there. Consequently, I have learned more about bottling fruits :)

We also got to take a trip to California to visit my family. It was a blast hanging out with them. My mom and my brother Wayne drove their scooters 1500 miles down the Washington, Oregon, and California coast. This night, we met them in Carpenteria, CA and drove them to my sister's house.

On the trip, we really just spent most of out time at the beach.

We had our first stiches this summer. Taylor was at the park and wasn't looking forward while she was running. Unfortunately, there was a pole in front of her. She busted her head right open. Luckily, we were only a few blocks from an emergency room. This wasn't the worst part of the whole ordeal though. After we were at the ER and the doctor gave her 5 shots in her head to numb her up, everybody told her that it wasn't going to hurt anymore. They draped her head and started sewing her up. She was still fighting and screaming and people still had to hold her down, but the doctor couldn't understand why. Then Jimmy figured it out. She wasn't numb! She doesn't go numb just like me and other people on my side of the family. She felt every stich! I felt terrible. Once we figured this out, the doctor said that he only had one more stich and that he was just going to "go for it" and finish the last stich even though she wasn't numb.

Then, we had to go back to the pediatricians office to get the stiches removed. I told Taylor that it wasn't going to hurt, but after her traumatic experience in the ER, she didn't believe me at all. So the nurse and I had to hold her down while the medical assistant tried to remove her stiches. In the process, Taylor was so scared and was fighting us so bad, and moving so much that the medical assistant ended up stabbing her right in her wound and opening part of it up again. It started bubbling out blood and she ran and got the doctors. I asked if we could glue her re-opened wound and he said no. He said that they could stich it closed again. I quickly asked if there were ANY other options so Taylor got like 10 steri-strips and a new bandaid.

The same day that Taylor got her stiches removed, Carley went to the pediatricians office too. Yes, it was quite the week with doctor's visits. She started vomiting on friday night and vomited all night long and into saturday. Then she started having the worst diarrhea I have EVER seen. She was starting to show signs of dehydration and her skin was this weird yellow color with gray under her eyes. So I strapped a diaper on her and gave her a bag to vomit in as we drove to the doctor's office. She was so dehydrated that they gave her TWO bags of IV fluids and gave her anti-vomitting drugs. They told me not to give her much to drink that night because she already had so much fluids in her body that it could overload her heart.

She didn't vomit anymore, but she continued to have diarrhea, bad, very frequently, all that night and through the next day. She started to become really lethargic and kept falling asleep and having weird dreams. I started to get worried and I took her vital signs again. She was getting dehydrated. Dang! I debated whether I should take her back to the doctors but Jimmy convinced me to do it. So, Sunday night I took her back to the pediatricians. When I got there, they took one look at her and told me to take her straight to Primary Children's hospital. I was like, "are you sure?" so they took her vitals and her heart rate was in the 160's ( it should be between 80-120).

I drove to the ER and they said that she was in shock and in metabolic acidosis (it's when your body isn't getting profused with blood and it can ruin your kidneys and can potentially cause organ failure and death). I kept my cool at this point because I knew that they could probably treat it at this point. They had her hooked up to a christmas tree of IV lines and were running a battery of tests. They were throwing all of these diseases at me that could be causing all of this and I kept thinking, "Please don't let it be that!" Then, after they flooded her with IV fluids and anitbiotics and tests, she started going unresponsive. I couldn't get her to wake up. At that point, the nurse and I were both calling her name, I was patting her cheeks and pulling up her eye lids and she finally groaned "what?" at me. I asked her to open her eyes. She pried them open but her eyes just stared straight ahead and didn't move. At this point, I started to get a little panicked. This was my little baby girl and it started to sink in that she was really sick.

The doctor came in at this point and told me that now she might have spinal meningitis or encephalitis because she wasn't responding to the fluids. I became a little emotional when she said that now she needed to do a spinal tap on her. Jimmy and his dad came to the ER and gave Carley a blessing. Then I watched as they gave her the spinal. I knew that I wouldn't be a problem for me to watch a spinal tap on anyone in general, but I didn't know if it would bother me to watch my own daughter, so I sat down while I watched. It was painful for Carley and I hated that, but I didn't feel faint. At this point, it was like 2:00 am and I had to take the state boards to get my nursing license the next morning. So I left to get a few hours of sleep while Jimmy stayed with her. She spent a night in the intensive care unit and was put on isolation precautions (that's where all the nurses and doctors come in her room fully gowned, gloved, and masked).

She had a terrible time with her IV's and ended up getting poked 7 times. She still has the scars on her hands and arms. She also looked like she had been in a boxing match because her face was swelled up bad from all the fluids they were pumping her with. It was difficult because she was so dehydrated and they couldn't get her diarrhea under control. Finally, she improved and by Tuesday, they told us that she didn't have any life-long-scary-disease that they had suspected and that she had contracted a nasty virus named the "adeno virus" and that she could finally go home. Man, was she happy to go home. She hated her IV's, hated being poked all the time, hated dragging all her monitors and wires into the bathroom everytime she had to go, and hated being in isolation. I was just glad that she won't have any lasting affects from this whole ordeal.

So he did it! He grew his hair out for locks of love! I thought that it'd have to be longer than this, but we just put multiple ponytails in his hair and shaved it off at his scalp, instead of growing it long enough for his hair to be bundled into one ponytail. Now someone else will be ale to enjoy those luscious locks of his :)

I graduated the Licensed Practical Nursing Program! Yay! I made it through! Our graduation was on Friday. What a whirl wind it has all been! This has definitely been one of the craziest times in my life, but it has been so neat in other ways. I am finally a nurse! How crazy is that? I'm not a RN yet, but i'm on the road. I knew that I wanted to do something in the medical field ever since I was a little kid, and now I get to fulfill part of that dream. I feel a sense of relief that this particular nursing programs is over, but in some ways I don't feel like i get much of a break because I still need to get accepted into another nursing program and take 2 more semesters to complete my RN. Also, I graduated on Friday, and tomorrow I start an IV certification class and last thursday, I started a pathophysiology class at Salt Lake Community College for the summer before our semester at MATC even ended. Sheesh! Sometimes it feels never ending! However, I love what I get to learn about and I feel grateful for this opportunity.

A girl's night out! We went to this restaurant called the Melting Pot. It was an awesome fondue place. It was fun to get together with some friends from Hawaii that are here.

Jimmy and his ridiculously long hair :) I kinda like it, to be honest. I think this is the longest his hair has EVER been. He keeps claiming that it has been a goal of his to grow his hair out for locks-of-love. Don't tell him this (because it will probably make him want to do it more) but I hope that he doesn't grow it out that long :)

So, yes...I am blogging about halloween. I know that i'm way behind, but, at least i'm blogging right? The semester is almost over. We have one more week of regular class and then one week of finals. Yay! We made it. Life has gotten easier. Mid-way through the semester, there was a group of us nursing students staying after class to work on these horrible and ridiculous worksheets that we had everyweek from a nursing fundamentals class. These worksheets took about 3 hours to complete one worksheet, and we were never assigned just one worksheet. Anyway, the nursing director asked us waht we were all working on and so we told her. Then she started asking questions and we told her all about these terrible worksheet. Needless to say, the next time we had our Fundaments class, the teacher gave some lame excuse, and she said that she was canceling our worksheets for that class. We were so excited! The semester got much better after that. I asked the nursing director later if she had talked to our Fundamental's teacher and she said that she had :) Nursing school is still tough, but that definately helped with eliminating those.

I actually love what I get to learn about and what I get to do. I did a clinical in an ER at a hospital. Generally first semester students don't really get these opprotunities but the hospital didn't have enough nurses to proctor so I got to go to the ER! Before the nursing instructor dropped me off there, she basically told me to act confident and to "get in there" and ask to do stuff, so I did. I totally faked my way through removing a few I.V. ports (which I had never been trained to do) and got to give injections, got to see a CT scan of a patient that had a twisted colon, got to see the X-rays of a patient that had a broken foot, got to place a catheter, and the best part was, I got to see an apendectomy! One of our patients was having an appendicitis and the surgical team came to the ER to pick her up and take her to the OR. I asked my nurse that I was shadowing if they ever let student nurses into the OR to watch the surgeries. One of the other nurses in the ER said, "No, they don't let students do that...", but my nurse went and asked anyway. The surgical nurse said that it would be okay. So, I booked it down the hall and caught up with the surgical team, I was thrown into a locker room and was told to gown up. I threw on the hair net, scrubs and shoe covers and went into surgery! The surgoen was so kind and he answered my battery of questions and explained the whole surgical process to me. I got to sit on a stool and watch everything. The nurse anestisist even let me look over his shoulder while he intibated the patient. It was the coolest clinical ever!

Fellow nursing students who actually dressed up, hehe. I'm lame :) I just couldn't muster the energy to throw something together this year, but they looked great!

This was our first Halloween in Utah. Since it is a predominantly LDS community, all the kids went trick-or-treating on Saturday (since Halloween fell on a Sunday) and it was absolutely freezing, windy, and raining on-and-off! So Carley wore this little dress with tights underneath the dress, and then she wore a coat on top of it. Taylor refused to dress up at all- probably because she was cold. We went trick-or-treating in the double stroller and the girls made it to like 5 houses before they were frozen. Then, I saw some other parents and they were taking their kids around in their cars, driving from house to house, and letting the kids run out of the car to each house. What a great idea! I had never dealt with freezing weather for Halloween before, so that is what we ended up doing too. I am learning all sorts of new ideas of how to deal with this crazy cold weather.

I started nursing school about 3 weeks ago. Man, I can't believe that it has only been three weeks! I feel like I have already been in school an eternity! I am so happy to be there and I love the things that we get to learn about. The intensity of it all kinda kills me though. I don't know how I can do this for another 2 years. What a daunting thought! I know that it isn't just me that feels that the program is intense, just about everybody feels that way. I think the first week we all wondered how we were going to get through all of this, but we have survived the first 3 weeks and we will keep plugging away.

One day, I had a quiz, a 5-7 page paper, a power point presentation, a homework assignment, and a huge packet of worksheets (about 12) that were all due in one day. Needless to say, the night before, I did homework from about 2pm to about 12:00 am straight (I did go to the bathroom and eat some food, but you get the idea) to finish it all up. And this week, we had 2 huge tests (amongst other things), one of which we as students had been studying for weeks to prepare for it. We all killed ourselves to study for it and the highest grade in the class was a 76%. Wow....

So, right now, I haven't really folded or put away the laundry for about 3 weeks now and we pick up the house on the weekends. Dinner is always an adventure and life is just crazy. I do feel like I am getting more into the groove of things. I asked one of my teachers the first week if this was the workload that we could expect for the rest of the semester and she paused, thought for a second, kinda frowned and said, "um...yeah...this is about right." But then she said, "but it will get easier because YOU will adjust to the program." She was right. I guess that you just adapt to accomplish the things that you have to. Thank heavens for Jimmy's help, for crockpots and for Costco's frozen dinners. Sometimes I throw things in the crockpot before I leave in the morning (but then it cooks from 6:15am until 4:30 pm, which is kinda a long time), and sometimes I boil frozen raviolis or heat up other things from costco's frozen section :) ...so, I guess we do adjust.
Jimmy's life is crazy too because he is going to school, working and trying to survive getting around since I have the car during the day. He commutes downtown to the University of Utah and to work by either catching a ride from a friend, borrowing a scooter from the people we live with, or by catching the bus and tracks.

But I don't want you to think that I'm miserable, because I'm not. It is so exciting to think that I am actually on the path to becoming a nurse and this crazy time in our life is kind of an adventure. We have been blessed through all of this and everything has fallen into place perfectly. My girls also love being at their grandma's house a lot (she watches them for me while i'm at school) and it makes it easier for me to have someone else watching them since they like it. It would be hard to drop them off at the babysitters if they were crying about it everytime.

There was a free fair that was called "The Green Jello Festival" that was put on by our stake. It was Aweome! I was so impressed that they could have an activity that was on this large of a scale. There was cotton candy, snow cones, 3 bouncy houses, a dunk tank, face painting, rock climbing, and more! The best part was that everything was FREE. My favorite kind of fair. They even provided dinner.

Carley climbed up the rock wall twice all by herself. She made it almost to the top of the wall both times. She is quite the climber. I was throughly impressed.

We waited in line for Carley to get her face painted FOREVER! It was so funny because these little girls were coming away from this booth with all of these elegant face painting and then when we almost got to the front of the line, they opened up a new table for the face painting because it was taking too long. Instead of the real face painter, Carley got a Young women that was like 11 years old who volunteered to paint, who painted Carley's face. I just smiled, because to a 4 year old, it didn't matter and she was just happy to have a butterfly face.

I got in to nursing school! Yay! I was one of 24 students that made it in! I start this month. I already had a financial aid meeting and it looks like the pell grant is going to cover my costs too. I feel like all of this has been such a blassing and that now is the right time for me to go back and finish my nursing degree. It is amazing what can be accomplished with Heavenly Father's help.

Sorry it has been so long that I have blogged. Jimmy and I miss Hawaii terribly. I miss the weather, I miss my friends, and I miss the culture. I tried to blog a few weeks ago, and I accidently deleted 4 months of photos on my camera and memory card. I was so sad and I was a little sick to my stomach when I realized what I had done later on. But, there is nothing that I can do now, so I will blog the pictures that I took recently.

To give you update, there are enjoyable things aout being here. It is fun to be around my brother and my mom. She is so wonderful with my kids, she helps out so much with the kids and is a good friend to me...however, I have decided that we can't settle in Northern Utah. The weather up here in the winter is terrible. I don't know why people live like this! I don't appreciate the cold like so many people do up here and don't think that I ever can. It is just now warming up and I know that people back in Hawaii have been enjoying perfect weather this whole time that I have been enduring the cold.

Jimmy got a job aat Granger elementary school. He works with kids that are academically low -acheivers. He works under the curiculum developer for the school. He likes aspects of the job, but it isn't a career job.

I have been busy too. One day I was talking to my cousin and she was telling me about the nursing school that she is attending. I decided to research it and it turns out that I have almost all of the pre-reqs, they don't charge out-of-state tuition, and they will accept all of my trasfer credits (even though they are old). I also found out that I still had time to make the April nursing application deadline for starting the program in Fall. So, needless to say, my life has been a whirlwind since I decided to go for it and try to apply for fall. I hurried and got my T.B. shot, signed up for an accelerated CNA course (my CNA license in Hawaii was expired :( ), took a math klep test, got all my transcripts and sent in my application. I made it before the deadline. Now, all I have to do is take a math class over the summer and take a chemistry lab class before the nursing program starts to still qualify for the nursing program. I should find out if I get in by May 26th, so wish me luck! The timing would work out perfect if I got in, because my mom said that she would be willing to watch the kids for me while I was in the program. I couldn't ask for a better babysitter.

My mom's 62nd birthday get-together. It is finally warming up enough that we could sit outside for a while. It makes me happy that it is getting warmer. To celebrate, we had a BBQ.

The weird thing about being here, is that the sun doesn't go down until about 8:30pm or so, and apparently in the summertime, it doesn't get completely dark until almost 10:00pm! So, it is light in this picture, and, yes, Taylor is wearing her pajamas. We have had to push the kids' bedtime back to 8:00 because it is too hard to put them down when it is completely light outside and still won't be getting dark for a while.

My mom's yard has a zip line in it. Isn't that fun? The kids love going on it.

Carley is such an animal lover and is so desperate for a pet (that I just can't bring myself to buying for her) that she has started to mother my mom's little baby chickens. (At least it isn't the lizards that she used to catch for pets in Hawaii) She takes that chickens out of the cage and plays with them everyday. She loves them and they will tolerate her making beds for them and covering them with dolly blankets, carrying them around in little sand pails, and carrying them around on her shoulder. These are the most docile chickens now because of her handling them all the time. She is really cute with them.

The snow is an adjustment. According to the people that live here, this winter has been a mild one! Isn't that crazy? These pictures were taken in March! When I would get stir crazy, I'd bundle up the kids and take them outside. They really liked it, but they don't last out there too long. Snow is neat, and I love to watch it snow, but after a few weeks of the cold, i'm done with it. At least the kids have a good attitude for the most part.

Taylor is getting better at wearing her snow suit. When we first showed up, she would just cry when I would put it on her.

I am not going to add any photos today, I just thought that i'd let everyone know that we made it to the mainland safe and sound. I guess that we haven't really settled in yet. Maybe it is because i'm just in denial that we are here. I love having my mom and my brother close, but it certainly isn't Hawaii. I've been feeling claustrophic. I can't believe how much time I have spent indoors since I got here! It is hard to be outside and it feels very unnatural to be indoors all the time. Ericka said that she takes her girls on walks sometines. She said that kids love the cold and that I should try it. It took me an hour to get the kids and my snow gear on, the jogging stroller out, and everything loaded up for a walk outside. I got a half of a block and the kids were crying and they wanted to go home. I've resorted to going to Mc Donalds, buying a $1 ice cream, splitting it 3 ways, and letting my kids play in their playground area. Some good news though, we got a car. I think that will help with the claustrophobia. My brother sold us his old saturn for cheap! I'm stoked about that. But...i'm determined to try to make the best of things. I remember that it is always hard to move to a new place, no matter where it is. Jimmy and I aren't miserable though, don't worry :) We are trying to look at it things like an adventure. We miss and love you guys in Hawaii!

Having T.D. out was so fun! It was like she never left. It was normal but weird at the same time to have her here. We played everyday. Her husband gave her one stipulation on her being able to visit Hawaii. It was that she couldn't go back home and be depressed about not being in Hawaii.... I wonder how she is doing....

When we got back from the mainland this monster squash was growning in our yard. The thing is humongus!

We got back just in time for Halloween and Carley got all dressed up for our ward's Halloween party. She was so jet lagged and tired from flying all night long, that she fell asleep in the car on our way to the party. She got wheeled around in the stroller while she slept.

The next night (which was actually Halloween) she got all dressed up again and we were going to our friend, Janny's birthday party/Halloween party/trick-or-treating, and poor Carley fell asleep in the car again! She got to sleep in the stroller yet again. She was bummed that she missed both parties, but she wasn't so upset when she saw the candy that Taylor had collected for her while she was sleeping!

Happy Birthday Janny! The Party was awesome. The coolest part was, was that T.D. was there. She moved to Washington a few years ago and all of us girls have missed her a ton. When I walked into the party, T.D. called my name and when I looked, she was holding a sign that said "I'm a suprise". I was so excited to see her that I fully started tearing up! We had a ton of fun hanging out for the week that she was here. It was like old times.

My sister got married this summer and Jimmy and I were blessed to be able to go and visit the mainland so that we could be there. It was wonderful and I wish that I had more pictures of it, but my camera died and I didn't have the charger so I barely have any pictures of it! Here is a cool story! My sister got a bunch of tickets to the game show "The Price is Right". I have always wanted to go on the show. She invited her husband's family and her family to go so we got to go as a big group! Once the show started, my sister got picked out of the crowd and she actually made it up on stage! She didn't win her game, but she did win snowboards! Cool, huh? If you want to watch the show, it is going to be on the day before Thanksgiving. This picture is of my cousin and me.

We got to go to the beach in California. I forgot how cold it got at the beach and how cold the water is there. It just isn't like that in Hawaii!

We all stayed at my brother and sister-in-law's house. It reminded me of when I was growing up with having like 5 people in the bathroom, all getting ready at once. It was a blast! My sister also learned how to cut hair (not formally or anything) but she had lots of volunteers.

A "Favorite Things" Party! How fun, huh? Jill had a great idea and threw a favorite things party and everyone brought a favorite item to give to the other ladies. We had an awesome, fancy dinner, way cool gifts, an amazing souffle dessert, and lots of laughs. The setting was so romantic with the muted lighting and the tiki torches and candles. What a fun night! Janny and I decided to have a little fun with our napkins. We look like a cross between aunt jemima and pirates trying to be gangsters:) What neat friends I am blessed with.

Jimmy and I went on a date! ...and it was the best kind of date, a FREE date! ..and it wasn't just a date, it was a COOL, free date. Jimmy's work gives him free tickets to attractions all around the island so that he can give people his opinions on the attractions when he helps tourists. We just recently found this out so we plan on taking advantage of it. This was a dinner cruise that took us from Honolulu to Waikiki. They had dinner, dancing, live entertainment and Jimmy even saw whales.

We did take Taylor with us because we were going to be gone for a while. It ended up being really funny though because there were quite a few Japanese tourists. For some reason, Japanese tourists find children that are really fair, fascinating. I think about 4 groups of tourists took pictures either with Taylor, or of Taylor.

There were polynesian dancers too.

Carley is such a good big sister. She is always looking out for Taylor and loves to make her baby sister laugh.

Carley's Auntie Marie bought her this pink coloring for her hair. Carley has been asking to dye her hair pink for a long time. She says that she wants pink hair because it is her faorite color and because she wants to look like Strawberry Shortcake. ..the only problem is, the hair coloring is SUPPOSED to wash out easily...unless your child has bright blonde hair...then, even if you wash her hair 3 times in the wash, it still takes a week to fade out.

It is amazing the positions she can fall asleep in :)

She is the happiest baby. She is so social that she smiles at everybody when we go out in public and people just think it is so cute. She actually stares at people and waits until they look at her so she can smile at them. What a funny kid.

Did I mention that she eats everything? Yep, she eats dirt too. At least she isn't a chocker. I found a part of a sippy cup filter in her diaper a while ago. Sheeesh, I couldn't believe that she swallowed that.

Jimmy decided to do Carley's Hair this day. Can you tell what he used to make her pig tails? ...mabe this is why moms normally do the hair, j/k.

We were at pohakapu park and Carley was playing on this dinsaur structure. She decided that she would start jumping off the end of it and on the last jump, she fell and hurt her foot bad. Needless to say, we got to spend a few hours at the hospital while she got checked out and got X-rays. Luckily, she had soft tissue damage, but no fracture. She was weight bearing 3 days later.

Carley was able to shove herself into this little wagon and Brent thought it would be funny to give her a ride.

Taylor makes the cutes little bashful face when someone smiles at her. She will bury her face into my chest or in this case, the couch.

It's crazy how having a baby can really put other things in your life on hold. So this is the first time I have blogged since before Taylor was born. Jimmy has been carrying that load all by himself, what a great guy :) He posted all the other posts since she was born until now. I'm slowly adding more things back into my life now. Wish me luck!

We went up to the visitor center for a family home evening. The Laie temple is so beautiful! Carley got to see the statue of Jesus and she was impressed by it. She even brought it up a week or two later when I was telling her about Jesus from one of her books. She said, "Yeah mom, do you remeber the Jesus statue?" She can now sing the songs: Jesus wants me for a sunbeam, I am a child of God, Popcorn popping on an apricot tree, give said the little stream and others. It is cute :)

Jimmy is such a good Daddy. I am blessed to have him. He helps so much with the girls. I really don't know how other moms do it without their husband's help. Mabe i'm just a lightweight when it comes to taking care of the kids by myself, but I do appreciate him a ton! I swear, today I was trying to get ready for church while Jimmy slept because he was sick. I was on the toilet, going to the bathroom, while nursing the baby because she was crying, all while I was trying to entertain the other kid and let her brush my hair. Now that is multi-tasking!

This is what I spend a chunk of my day doing. Lately, I've been reading Twilight while I nurse. I am re-reading the book before the movie comes out on Friday. Yay! I'd like to give a shout out to all the Twilight readers!

Carley and I are getting ready before we go surfing. When we went out as a family this thrusday, she and her Daddy were on the board together going tandum and they caught a wave together. It scared her so they came in after that, haha. She is a trooper.

Isn't she cute? She is so cubby, I guess it's hard to tell from this photo, but she has a bunch of little rolls and she is so squishy. I love it! She is consistantly in the 95th and 97th perentile for her height and weight. She is wearing 9 month old clothes and she just turned 4 months. Crazy!

Carley loves being a big sister. She asks to hold Taylor all the time and she is so helpful. She gets toys for her and gives her little kisses. I am very blesssed that she isn't a jelous, tyrant of a sister...yet?

Carley loves to play at the play area in the mall. It is the perfect place to go when it is raining. She loves this little bus and she is kinda territorial about it. She recruits other kids to come inside with her, and then she tells them to go sit in the back. It's hilarious. She does take turns in the drivers seat now.

Taylor is getting a personality. She smiles all the time and is such a good baby. Jimmy told me the other day that he loves Taylor so much, that he is glad that we have her, and that he wouldn't trade her....he just isn't ready to do it all again anytime soon:)

No baby yet. I have one week until my due date but I don't know if I will make it to then or not. I am now starting to feel a little uncomfortable. (Not that it will keep me from trying to surf on Thursday if I'm not in labor:) My pelvis is popping when I roll over in bed or when I put too much pressure on one leg at a time. The baby is also getting big and she sure lets her wishes be known that she wants more room. She can really stretch and kick! ..but I guess that I can't complain too much if those are my only concerns. I went to the doctors on Friday and she said that I was 1 cm dilated and that I was already 40% effaced so I could really go anytime. Not that it's necessary, but it would be nice if I could hold on until my mom comes in 6 days, but we will see.

Right now in Hawaii is what is called "Grad season." It means that all the kids that are graduating from highschool have these huge parties and Luaus to celebrate. They have been going on every weekend since school got out and we have been reaping the benefits of all the traditional Hawaiian food. We are at one here. These are all the men doing the Haka (a dance that originated from New Zealand that warriors dancec beore they go into battle). These families will camp for a couple of weeks at this beach park to continue the celebration.

Jimmy got to be one of the back up dancers for another presentation that was going on too.

I have been getting ready for the new baby and I bought a baby carrier for her. Carley wanted to see if she could fit in it. Here she is playing around with her Daddy.

Jimmy has been doing tons of work on the yard lately. He has been digging out grass, putting in borders around the yard, and transplanting plants. We now have antheriums, halikonias, ginger, and all these cool flowers bordering the yard. He also moved some tree around and planted the mango tree that his parents bought for us when they were out visiting.

I taught a cake decorating class to the young men and women in our ward.

This is why it is hard to keep your house clean when you're a mom:) Carley likes to rearrange my pantry for fun.

My wonderful friends Jenni, Liz, and Lindsey planned an awesome surprise baby shower for me. I was COMPLETELY surprised. I was told that I was going out to dinner for a gir's night because T.D. was moving to Washington and we were saying goodbye to her. I fell for it hook, line, and sinker. My husband drove me to Jenni's house to drop me off so we could "carpool to the restaurant." Once we were at her house, her 5 year old son said that his mommy was "still getting ready for the baby shower." Still completely unsuspecting, I thought to myself, "Silly 5 year old, you must be mistaken, we are going out to dinner, we aren't going to a baby shower." Needless to say, poor Jenni was a little flustered when I saw her and thought that I had figured it out, but I'm so oblivious and trusting that I didn't even get it. I didn't pick up any of the ques and didn't fully realize what was going on even after we got to Liz's house.

Lindsey organized the games and it was a blast having her, Metta, my mother-in-law, and Ericka all visiting at the perect time for me.

My mother-in-law was a hoot. She had just gotten in that day (she flew in from Utah) and was in on the whole surprise. She didn't lead on at all. She totally hung with us younger girls and played along in all the games that night.

This baby is going to be so spoiled with all the great stuff people gave to me. Thank you everyone for your generosity! Also, I have to call her "this baby" because Jimmy and I still haven't named her yet. I know, pathetic isn't it? We have to middle name picked out but we are still kinda battleing out the first name. I think that I should be able to choose the first name since he chose the middle name, but it doesn't always work that way. Mabe I should talk to him more about it when I have just gone through labor and his defenses are down :) j/k At least we aren't having a boy again because I don't want to have to convince him that we aren't going to name our baby "rock", or "titus," or "coal," or "tuff," anything else that might sound good over a loud speaker at a football stadium. At least most of the girl names he likes are a little more normal than that:)

Haha! Yes, Janny suggested that we build a pyrmid with me on top. These girls are so much fun. They are crazy. You wouldn't think, under normal circumstances, that having a pregnant lady kneeling on you would be such a fun experience, but we had a blast.

We had a family surf day. Jimmy is able to hang out with us a little more now that he is done with school for a bit. He took the opprotunity and came surfing with us on thursday. Grandma came too and even Carley got to go out surfing! She did pretty well out there with her little life jacket on. She eventually got cold so her Daddy took her in.

Yeah! We finally made it! Jimmy graduated this weekend with his bachelors degree in the Travel Industry Management School at the University of Hawaii. (It's basically a business degree but it is more specified in Hotels, Airlines, Restaurants, etc.) He is so happy to be done...accept that now he will be starting his masters degree soon. It's a never ending process isn't it? :) I am so proud of him. He worked so hard to get here.

We were able to go to the Kokua Festival and see Jack Johnson and Dave Matheus. I couldn't believe how great they sounded live! TD and I even got a special treat. We walked in early to get a place on the grass for everyone while everybody else was taking care of parking. While we were walking in, we were on our way to the main area and we turned a corner and there was Jack Johnson playing on this little stage for the kids. He was so close! We heard him play 3 songs and he even invited the kids to come up and dance. Then he had to stop because the main concert was about to begin. We were so lucky!

Here is TD, Jenni, and Me at another surf club day. They were able to go surfing and I got to hang out on the sand and socalize while the other moms took turns. I had decided to stop surfing because I was having a hard time not puking when I was laying on my stomach...but we found a way around that, hehe. This picture was taken a few weeks ago, but this last Thursday, I couldn't resist trying to surf again. I had brought one of our really big long boards for another girl, and when she was done surfing I decided to try taking a turn. The waves were small so I decided to try. I lugged the board out to the water, threw it in the water, hopped on it while on my knees, and knelt while I paddled instead of laying on my stomach. It worked great! It was definately different trying to balance while paddling on my knees, turning around was different, and catching waves was harder, but it worked! ..and I would definately do it again. Looks like I won't have to stop surfing yet after all!

Here is my Prego belly at around 7 months. It's crazy because about 6 1/2 months, it just seemed to pop out. Now it just keeps getting bigger and bigger :) It does have it's benefits though, it's great that people can tell that I'm pregnant now instead of thinking that I just have a beer belly.

People are so nice to us! This is a little hand-me-down bike that a friend gave us. Carley loves it so much and she is doing really well riding it. Don't you love the stylish sun glasses and the "Cheese" face?

This is the only way that I can get dinner made. Carley sits on the counter and helps me "cut" vegetables. She has a special knife that isn't sharp. Then she helps me put the cut veggies into the pot or pan. Getting dinner ready definately takes longer this way but I figure she is learning life skills ("women skills" <--as jimmy would jokingly call them :) and it's better than having a child pulling at my leg:)

Carley loves to play with play dough. This time we made snakes together. She scooped up the snakes and took them into the guest bedroom. I was wondering what she was doing, so I asked her. She put them on the bed and said that they were going "nite, nite". It was way cute.

I love when we have get togethers with our friends. They are so fun! We are at Elizabeths house, having one more celebration before the birth of her new baby.

Carley's friends had dress-up dresses and she put on one. She was walking around like such a lady. I don't know where she picked it up(or mabe it was out of necessity), but it was so cute that she lifted her dress when she walked.

Grandma gave Carley a plastic tea set. It has been one of the best $1 gifts. Carley loves to sit down, cook "meat and rice" for her babies and feed them.

My genius and wonderful friend Jenni (the one holding the boy on the left) started a surf club in her ward. She invites all these ladies, we pack up all the kids, throw the boards on our cars and mini-vans, and go surfing every thursday. Sometimes I wish she would have thought of this sooner! :) We take turns being on the sand and out in the water so that we can watch the kids. It's great! Now we wives get a chance to go surfing more often then the husbands because Jenni thought of this. I think the husbands are a little resentful at times, j/k. We have a great time being together as friends, we get to surf, and the kids love it too.

I guess in some ways I do wish we had thought of this earlier because I am on my last couple of weeks being able to surf. I just made 6 months being pregnant and I can't last too much longer. I am already kinda pushing it, and it's pretty uncomfortable but the doctor said that I wouldn't hurt the baby. She said that it will just getting too uncomfortable for me to continue for too long. I'm going to hold out for as ong as possible:)

Every year my uncle Ricky dresses up as Santa Claus and gives us all Christmas Eve pajamas. This was at the big extended family party, the Sunday before Christmas. Jimmy looks like he might want Zoolander pajamas.

This was the first Christmas that Carley was able to open and appreciate some of her presents. Yeah! I think her Daddy was more excited about the blocks than Carley was though.

Here we are at Grandma Hamill's house. We came up for Christmas. It was quite the climate change from Hawaii! Jimmy is being a "tough guy" with out a jacket or anything.

Uncle Curtis and cousin Lizzy were pulling Carley as she took a turn in the sled. She looks thrilled doesn't she? Man this kid is just too mellow sometimes:) Anyway, I didn't want her to get cold so I bundled her up in about 2 long sleeved shirts, a fleece jacket, 3 pairs of pants, the snow suit and 2 pairs of gloves. Mabe she was so expressionless because she couldn't move! I felt like she was the kid that couldn't put his arms down on the Christmas Story Movie:)

We do things a little different here in Hawaii. Thanksgiving mornings are BIG Turkey Bowl games. It's tradition! Here is Zach and Jimmy playing in our ward's Turkey Bowl. This year we went over to the Eror's house again and had emu'ed (cooked in the ground with coals, hot rocks and layers of banana leaves) turkey and pork butt, it was awesome. Then we hot tubed after we ate. :)

We spent 4 days on Kauai with our friends, The Speeds. It was awesome because interisland fares were on a $9 special so we decided to take advantage of it. This picture is of a mini "Grand Canyon" in the middle of Kauai. Who would have imagined that that was there? We got so sick on the ride up to the canyon! ..but it was still worth the drive. Jimmy even found wild guava on the trail.

Our wonderful friends, the Utley's came out to visit. They used to live in Hawaii and they moved to Talorsville, Utah. This was a girls surfing session up on the North Shore. It was a blast having them visit!

This Haloween, we decided to fore go the Nacho Libre outfit that she and Jimmy wore last year. :) This year Carley wore a pretty fairy/princess outfit that Jimmy's auntie Moani sent for her. It was so cute, we loved it. She still wears the little yellow heels all around town.
